CALL 911
If you are afraid or in danger, call the police or sheriff department. Officers can
transport you to a safe location and give you information about your rights to protection
under the law.

DEVELOP A SAFETY PLAN
Plan ahead to know how you and your children will react if a violent incident
occurs. Have a plan for a safe place to go. Try to set aside money and get     important papers together, such as Social Security cards, birth certificates,
personal identification, legal documents, etc. Put these items in a bag in a
safe place in case you need to leave quickly. Bring your house keys and car keys and any necessary medication.

TALK TO SOMEONE
Part of an abuser’s power comes from secrecy. Let someone you can trust know about the threatening and harmful behaviors you are experiencing. Blaming you
for everything that goes wrong is a sign of an unhealthy relationship. Go to a friend or neighbor for help, or call our 24 hour support number for assistance at
304-797-SAFE (7233).
